Terms & Conditions

By entering the Chinese Secrets Limited Edition Collector’s Box Competition, entrants agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.
1. The Competition
The competition is being held to celebrate the publication of Wendy Charlton's new espionage novel, Chinese Secrets, published on Friday 25 September 2026.
Entry is free and no purchase is necessary.
Purchasing a copy of Chinese Secrets, or any other product, will not increase an entrant's chances of winning.
2. Competition Period
The competition opens on Sunday 20 September 2026 and closes at Midnight (UK time) on Friday 25 September 2026.
Entries received after the closing time will not be accepted.
The winner will be selected and announced after the competition has closed.
3. Eligibility
The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 years or over.
Employees of the Promoter and anyone directly involved in the organisation or administration of the competition, together with members of their immediate household, are not eligible to enter.
Only one entry per person will be accepted. Duplicate entries may be removed.
The Promoter reserves the right to request reasonable evidence of eligibility before awarding the prize.
4. How to Enter
To enter, entrants must complete the official competition entry form and provide:

Competition Question
Which of the following best describes the difference between MI5 and MI6?
A. MI5 is responsible primarily for domestic security, while MI6 gathers foreign intelligence.
B. MI5 operates overseas and MI6 is responsible for policing within the UK.
C. There is no difference; they are two names for the same organisation.
Entrants must submit their entry before the published closing time.
There is no charge to enter and no purchase is required.
5. Selecting the Winner
Only correctly answered, valid entries received before the closing date will be eligible.
One winner will be selected at random from all eligible entries containing the correct answer after the competition closes.
The Promoter's decision regarding the administration of the competition and the selection of the winner will be final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the result.
6. The Prize
The winner will receive one Limited Edition Chinese Secrets Collector's Box, with an approximate retail value of £40.
The Collector's Box includes:

One signed copy of Chinese Secrets by Wendy Charlton

A numbered Limited Edition certificate

A Chinese Secrets Secret Services dossier containing additional background information relating to the story and characters

A magnetic bookmark

Additional Chinese Secrets themed items selected by the Promoter
The prize is non-transferable and there is no cash alternative.
The Promoter reserves the right, where circumstances outside its reasonable control make this necessary, to substitute an item with an alternative of equal or greater value.
7. Notification of the Winner
The winner will be contacted using the email address and/or mobile telephone number supplied with their competition entry.
The winner must respond within 7 days of the first notification.
If the winner cannot be contacted, does not respond within this period, is subsequently found to be ineligible or is unable to accept the prize, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner from the remaining eligible entries.
The prize will be sent to the UK postal address confirmed by the winner.
The Promoter will not be responsible for a prize being delayed or undeliverable as a result of incorrect contact or delivery information supplied by the winner.
8. Personal Information and Privacy
Personal information supplied by entrants will be used to administer the competition, verify entries, contact the winner and deliver the prize.
Competition entry details will not automatically be used to subscribe entrants to marketing communications.
Entrants may separately choose to receive news, information and promotional communications from Wendy Charlton. Any such marketing consent is optional and is not a condition of entering the competition. Entrants can tick the opt in box on the prize form.
Where an entrant chooses to receive marketing communications, they may withdraw their consent at any time.
Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation and the Promoter's Privacy Policy, available at: [Privacy Policy]
Personal information collected solely for the administration of the competition will not be retained for longer than reasonably necessary for that purpose, subject to any applicable legal or regulatory requirements.
9. Publicity
The winner may be asked whether they are happy for their first name and general location, for example "Jane from Birmingham", to be used when announcing the winner.
Any additional photographs, testimonials or promotional participation will be subject to the winner's separate agreement.
10. Facebook and Instagram
This competition may be advertised or promoted through Facebook and Instagram.
The competition is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, associated with, linked to or adjudicated by Facebook, Instagram or Meta.
Entrants acknowledge that they are providing their competition information to the Promoter and not to Facebook, Instagram or Meta.
Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the competition should therefore be directed to the Promoter.
11. Fair Participation
The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant where there are reasonable grounds to believe that the entrant has:

submitted false or misleading information;

attempted to submit multiple entries contrary to these Terms;

attempted to manipulate or interfere with the competition;

used automated entry methods; or
-
otherwise breached these Terms & Conditions.
12. Changes or Cancellation
The Promoter reserves the right to amend, suspend or cancel the competition where circumstances beyond its reasonable control make this unavoidable.
Any changes will be communicated as clearly and promptly as reasonably possible and will not unfairly disadvantage entrants who have already entered.
13. Responsibility
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any liability which cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to this, the Promoter will not be responsible for entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete or not successfully submitted because of technical failures or circumstances outside the Promoter's reasonable control.
14. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions and the competition are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and entrants may bring legal proceedings in the courts applicable to them under UK consumer law.
